Children and Youth

We have it on good authority that parenting can be the hardest job in the world, and sometimes it feels like there is a lot of pressure not to talk about it.  Children in even the most loving of families sometimes engage in behaviors that we don't enjoy or understand.  Let us tell you a little bit about what our approach to therapy with youth and families.

Therapy is for Everyone!

We believe that a healthy family starts with well-supported parents.  In so many scenarios, parents are not taught how to be... well... parents!  When faced with big things happening in your child's life, you might be at a loss for how to respond.  You might be concerned when behaviors pop up - such as hitting, tantrums, mutism, separation anxiety, etc.  Not only do we work directly with your child, we are equally invested in helping our parent clients understand why these behaviors happen and what they can do in the moment to support their child.

We believe that there's no such thing as a "bad kid".  A core principal in child and youth therapy is exploring a child's feelings and behaviors to understand why they act the way they do.  In many situations, children are doing their best, but simply do not have the language or communication skills to help us understand what's going on.  Your child and youth therapist is trained in a variety of ways to communicate on your kid's level to get to the bottom of the problem!

We are here to support your family through difficult times.  Often families reach out for support when the family is experiencing a significant change or challenge.  Sometimes this means separation and divorce, the death of a loved one, or following a traumatic incident.  Rest assured, our child and youth practitioners have a wealth of experience in shepherding families through the difficult moments that life can bring, and providing resources, supports, and coping skills that work for a variety of ages and needs.
