Affirming Care
LGBTQIA2S+
At the Ingersoll Wellness Hub, we understand that not just any therapist can safely support queer folx. Many individuals in the LGBTQIA2s+ community experience additional trauma when they seek therapy for support - unfortunately, practitioners coming from a religious counselling model, practitioners offering "conversion therapy", and practitioners who aren't aware of their own biases and micro-aggressions are a part of the problem.
Here's how we ensure your safety:
How The Hub is Different
The Ingersoll Wellness Hub is a welcoming and inclusive space dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. With a commitment to creating a safe, respectful environment, the Hub provides services that cater to the unique needs of the community, offering counseling, health resources, and advocacy. The staff is trained to be sensitive to diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and experiences, ensuring everyone feels heard, respected, and supported. Whether seeking mental health services, educational workshops, or just a safe space to connect, the Ingersoll Wellness Hub stands as a trusted ally for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals. We don't just "talk the talk" thought - here's how we embody our values:
1. Therapists working with LGBTQIA2S+ individuals are specifically trained to do so. For example, Melanie and Melissa both have honours degrees in Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies - a university program that is renowned for its attention to diverse populations.
2. Therapists offerings couples' therapy have accessed training programs and resources that specifically speak to the unique challenges of the queer community. Our knowledge and education is steeped in inclusion from the ground up.
3. Our paperwork is reflective of the options every individual needs in order to feel seen and safe even before entering the space. Options such as pronouns, gender identity, being able to add a preferred name / legal name (for insurance purposes) to your client file all guarantee that we start off our relationship on the right foot.
4. Our staff is active and supportive local Pride initiatives and events - for example, did you happen to see the quilt auctioned by Oxford County Pride to support local celebrations? That was made and donated by one of our staff, and she hopes to make it a yearly tradition!
5. Our branding is reflective of our beliefs. Our signage and online presence reflects our commitment to the community, because we know it's hard to walk into a new space without knowing if the space is safe. A big rainbow sign on the front of the building (from our perspective) says "you matter" "you deserve to take up space" and "we will protect you here".
