Grace VanHooydonk
Counselling Intern
Hi, I’m Grace! I am currently completing my practicum placement at the Ingersoll Wellness Hub while pursuing my Master’s degree in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy.
As an emerging professional in counselling, I am working towards licensure with the CRPO under the supervision of Melanie Rodrigues, Registered Psychotherapist. As I gain skills and experience, I will be offering an affordable and accessible sliding scale to meet clients who have financial constrictions and barriers.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Relationships, as well as a post-graduate certification in Addictions and Mental Health. My experience working with both youth and adults has strengthened my passion for creating a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and comfortable being themselves. I believe therapy should feel collaborative, genuine, and human. My approach is inviting and conversational, with a focus on creating a space where clients feel safe, welcomed, and understood.
Outside the therapy room, I enjoy staying active, exploring new places and experiences, and spending time outdoors to find simple ways to unwind and recharge!
My Specialties
Working with Youth and Young Adults:
With experience supporting youth in recreation, education, and community settings, I enjoy working with young people as they navigate challenges related to school, identity, relationships, and life transitions. I strive to create a supportive and approachable space where youth feel heard, respected, and understood.
Anxiety, Mood, Stress, and Overwhelm
I offer a calm and compassionate space for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, or feelings of overwhelm. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative, helping clients better understand their experiences, make sense of what feels unmanageable, and develop practical strategies for coping, grounding, and navigating daily life with greater clarity and confidence.
Addictions and Mental Health:
With a background in addictions and mental health, I am passionate about supporting individuals who are navigating substance use concerns alongside emotional or life challenges. I take a harm-reduction, person-centred approach that meets clients where they are at.
Spirituality and Meaning-Making:
Whether navigating a life transition, experiencing loss, questioning beliefs, unpacking religious trauma, or searching for a deeper sense of purpose, I offer a space for thoughtful reflection and exploration. Together, we can explore spiritual, religious, or existential concerns in a way that honours your unique values, beliefs, and lived experiences. Just in case spirituality isn't your "jam" though, please rest assured that bringing your spirituality into therapy is an *option* not a requirement!
Limitations: I am still achieving my full licensure with the College of Psychotherapists, and thus there are some presenting concerns that are best supported by a seasoned-pro. Individuals requiring specialized trauma care (e.g., EMDR), who have a history of suicide attempts, or are currently struggling with addictions are welcome to get in touch with other clinicians on our team, who would be happy to provide a more specialized level of care.
